Our Philosophy

All members of the school community are important and each has a contribution to make. We value skills, achievement and the desire for knowledge along with application and effort. We are aware that the secondary sector is the final experience of school Geography and for many pupils Key Stage 3 will be the last opportunity to study Geography. We fully support the view expressed by the Geographical Association that…

“Geography provides opportunities through fieldwork, for first hand investigation of places, environments and human behaviour. Geography builds a knowledge and understanding of current events from local to global. Geography develops skills for the future, including literacy, numeracy, ICT, problem solving, team work, thinking skills and enquiry. Geography values your views when making decisions about difficult issues”.

We hope that through our efforts inside and outside the classroom, students feel excited and invigorated by the world they experience and see around them.

The Geograhical Association noted that…

   “Without geography…you’re nowhere!”

At a time when nationally, humanities subjects are considered to be under threat, it is pleasing to note that Geography continues to be one of the most popular subjects in Bedford Modern School.
