Y 10 - 13 Geography
In Years 10 and 11, Geography is taught for six periods every cycle. Approximately 60% of the students follow the GCSE syllabus "A", published by AQA. Whilst the exam is clearly prescriptive, chances do arise for staff to occasionally develop day to day newsworthy issues, therefore ensuring that students are fully prepared for both their public exam and life in general. The themes include: the restless earth, coasts, water on the land, weather and climate, living world, population change, changing urban environments, the development gap and tourism.
It is anticipated that all students will enter the higher tier examination.
In Years 12 and 13 students receive 12 periods per cycle. The work follows the EDEXCEL syllabus and includes study of hazards, climate change, coastal development, rebranding, globalisation, energy, cold environments and tourism. The subject is very popular and at present there are 20 students in Upper Sixth and 44 in Lower Sixth.
